Minimally Invasive Bunion Correction

WHAT IS A BUNION?

A bunion is a bump on the inside of your big toe. It is the result of the bones not being in alignment. This results in your big toes moving towards your smaller toes.

WHAT IS A MINIMALLY INVASIVE BUNIONECTOMY AND HOW IS IT DIFFERENT ?

A Minimally Invasive Bunionectomy (MIS Bunion) is a procedure where small (keyhole) incisions are made over the great toe and the bunion is removed. Screws are inserted under the skin and the bones are held in better alignment. The MIS Bunion has smaller scars, less pain, less opioid use, and a quicker recovery to activities than classic open or Lapidus style bunion corrections.

Why Minimally Invasive Bunionectomy (MIS)?

• Less Painful – 50% less narcotic use post operative compared to open bunion surgery

• Less Scarring

• Very low infection rate

• Low bunion recurrence rate – 7%

• Early Weight bearing - can walk the same day

• Quick return to full activities by 4 -6 months

• Minimal Stiffness - Preserves all joint movement (no fusions)
